Things have settled down since the hectic schedule of Storytelling Festival, but there's still a lot going on. Here are two things you may enjoy this weekend in Jonesborough, both fundraisers.
My friend, Linda Poland, Jonesborough's resident's storyteller, is involved in two story-telling events this week. (For more about her individual and group tours and events, see www.PositiveSolutions.com .)
This Thursday October 28, at 7:00 PM there will be a special emergency fundraiser for Buffalo Mountain Camp. They lost their walk in freezer and two hot water heaters and some heating problems. This camp is not only for kids but it does special retreat programs for adults in need.
Four Professional storytellers are giving of their time for "Keep Camp Cool" Love offering will be accepted. Charles Maynard, Madelyn Rohrer, Linda Poland and Leon Overbay will perform the concert with fun stories of the season and some personal stories for good measure." The event will be at the Jonesborough UMC, 211 Main Street, Jonesborough, TN.
Jonesborough Senior Center's fall festival will be Friday, October 29, from 4-8 pm. at the Historic Jonesborough Senior Center. Linda will tell stories at 4:30, and the Appalachian Express Chorus will sing at 6:15. At 7:00, Trey Hensley will sing. Our friend, Calvin Crim, is part of the chorus.
This is a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, part of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Telford Ruritan Club will provide a barbecue dinner, and there will be root beer floats, caramel apples, hot chocolate and cider. There will also be a chance to win a handcrafted quilt and home-made cakes. For more information, call the Jonesborough Senior Center at 753-1075.
Postscript - we were there and enjoyed the evening.
