One of their groups, the Men of Note, performed for the Newcomers' luncheon last week - great show, as always.
Our friend, Calvin Crim, is part of this group and we've enjoyed hearing them. He gave me some information about the chorus. It's a group of about 40 men who sing a-capella, mostly barbership style, including barbershop arrangements of pop songs from the 60's and some gospel. The Men of Note is a group of about 16 who sing in smaller venues, and there are some quartets. In addition to their own concerts, they perform at 15-20 events in the area each year in addition to their annual spring and CHristmas shows. Quartets perform singing valentines for a fee on Valentine's Day.
The members of the group range in age from 15 to 86, and the group welcomes new members. The chorus was established in 1968 and is part of the Internationl Barbershop Harmony Society, which has about 25,000 members. The AEC has ranked in the top 20% of the Dixie District, which is made up of about 50 choruses in 6 states.
